Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Tuesday (8) that he is open to dialogue with the United States, but does not accept preconditions. Zelensky made the remarks at a press conference with journalists in Kiev, after a meeting with US President Joe Biden at the White House.
"I am ready to engage in dialogue with the United States, but I do not accept preconditions," Zelensky said. "Ukraine cannot accept any conditions that violate its sovereignty and territorial integrity." Zelensky also said Ukraine is ready to negotiate with Russia, but only if Russia withdraws its troops from Ukraine. "We cannot negotiate with an invader who is occupying our territory," Zelensky said.
Zelensky's interview comes as tensions between Ukraine and Russia are rising. Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022 and has occupied parts of the country since then. Ukraine has been fighting to reclaim its territory and has received military support from the United States and other Western countries.
Zelensky's visit to the United States was his first since the start of the war. Zelensky met with Biden at the White House and addressed the US Congress.
Zelensky’s visit was a sign that the United States is committed to supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russia. Zelensky thanked the United States for its support and said Ukraine needs more help to defeat Russia. The war in Ukraine remains one of the world’s greatest challenges. Ukraine is determined to reclaim its territory, and Russia is determined to maintain control over the areas it occupies. Dialogue between the two countries is essential to finding a peaceful solution to the conflict.
